Art Book – What’s In A Model Name?
This book was designed with the concept of vehicle nomenclature and the etymology and definitions they have. Unpacking how and why vehicles get their names in a similar way people do, I discovered a concept that would define my pagination and sequencing; ‘chiaroscuro.’ A treatment of light in painting. From French to English “lightness and darkness.”
I used this concept as a graphic treatment ordering my pages from light to dark – the light spreads showcasing great names that inspire us, are aspirational, and rich with meaning.  ‘Eldorado, Defender, Civic.’  The grey pages, a moral grey area, diving into alphanumerics that disengage us from real lived experiences: ‘330i’ or ‘CX-5.’
The final chapter is pure black, focusing on names that have midguided translations and offensive meanings. Overall, this project allowed me to gain skills in the print-production world, having the book produced at Nonstop and bound with A-1 bookbinding in Los Angeles.
